Daren Dunn is a Hutchinson native. He was very active in high school at Pretty Prairie, where he graduated. Daren played football, basketball, and track. He performed in the school play 2 years and held the lead his senior year. Daren was nominated class president, but respectfully declined and passed the honor to a classmate and served as vice-president. He was honored as homecoming king during the football season. Daren was president of the National Honors Society and took his improv skills to state with his esteemed partner David Painter. Painter and Dunn won the Class 1A Forensics title in Improvised Duet Acting.

Daren moved on to Hutchinson Community College, where he remained active in many activities. Daren was honored as a Delos V. Smith Scholar. This scholarship is so named for the Hollywood actor that attended HCC. Daren was the sports anchor on HCC channel 13 News. His sports show was named best sportscast by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in 2009. Daren’s entry defeated those submitted by both the University of Kansas and Kansas State University. He announced play-by-play for numerous football and basketball games. He was named to the Who’s Who Among American College Students with a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average. Daren performed in HCC’s Loose Change Players Improv Troupe that traveled to local high schools, The Metro, and had two stage performances. Daren was the lead in the stage production of Honk and Tartuffe. He also had roles in The Tempest and Chicago. Daren performed in Kansas City at KCACTF as a partner to a Ryan Scholar participant.
